Carneddau Routes.

Everything from Bangor to Conwy to Betws y Coed and up the A5 to Bangor. Surrounded by the A55 to the north, A5 south and A470 to the East. Definately some of the best walking country in the country, with the character of Ogwen in the south and more remote, rolling hills to the North and East.

Bothy Aber to Llanbedr via Foel Fras, Foel Grach and Creigiau Eigiau. A wild walk across the Carneddau rather then a north south traverse. (23km, 1250m ascent) Strenuous
ddeufaen pylons Rachub to Capelulo via Bwlch y Ddeufaen. A long walk that can be extended to Conwy if needed. Takes in the peaks of Foel Fras, Drum and Tal y Fan and could be completed in one long day. (24.5km 1250m ascent) Strenuous
Carneddau from Rachub. Carneddau from Rachub A Quiet ascent of the North Carneddau avoiding the usual busy sections and long walk in. Cuts the ascent down, and you're immediately on the hill. (21km 950m ascent) Hard
Llewelyn via Cwm Llugwy Cwm Llugwy Circuit. A quieter walk from Ogwen. Some steep sections, some scrambling and a pathless descent on grass. A bit of everything. (16.5km, 900m ascent). Moderate / Hard
pic Tal Y Fan from Pen y Sychnant car park. A pleasant walk up from the car park area to this northern outlier of the Carneddau. (14.5km, 550m ascent) Moderate
carneddau from ogwen to aber via drum Carneddau - Ogwen to Aber via Drum. Similar to the walk i did last year (link), but descending via the Drum ridge. Generally easier to navigate and on-path all the way, you might still find sections awkward in thick mist. (22km, 1500m ascent) Strenuous
pen yr helgi du Carneddau from Aber to Trefriw. This is almost a mini LDP as the terrain you pass through changes so much from the forest at Aber, the high Carneddau and Llyn Cowlyd. (27km, 1500m ascent) Strenuous
yr elen Cwm Llafar Horseshoe. Superbly remote (in parts) circular route over Yr Elen, Carnedd Llewelyn and Carnedd Dafydd from Gerlan. (13.5km, 1250m ascent) Hard
Drum sign post Drum, Foel Fras and Aber Falls from Aber. (26km, 1200m). Epic walk around Aber, taking in the peaks of Drum and Foel Fras. End the day on the gentle North Wales Path and the Aber Falls. Route can be shortened to 20km.
tent Circuit of Moel Wnion Ramble around Moel Wnion above Aber, visiting Aber Falls on the return leg. Done as a wild camp, but equally good as a mid level walk with views of the Menai Strait and Northern Carneddau. (17.5km, 750 m ascent).
capelulo Tal y Fan from Aber Northernmost Carnedd, feels remote, but isn't too far from civilisation. Requires some navigation over pathless and sometimes featureless terrain. (16km, 700m ascent)
crafnant Llynnoedd Crafnant and Geirionydd Low level ramble from Capel Curig, visiting the two beautiful lakes of Crafnant and Geirionydd. (15km, 600m ascent).
snowdon from capel Creigiau Gleision and Llyn Cowlyd from Capel Curig. Remote and rough walk to visit this outlying Carneddau peak and dramatic Llyn Cowlyd. Make sure your navigational skills are up to scratch as it's complex, pathless terrain for the most part. (19km, 834m ascent).
garn Main Carneddau Ridge from Ogwen to Aber. Absolute corker of a route, taking in the best this range has to offer. Starts with a short, but steep ascent of Pen yr Ole Wen that includes a sharp steep scramble before following a high ridge as far as Foel Grach and descending via some rocky playgrounds to Aber. (19km, 1050m ascent)
orme from tal y fan Tal Y Fan from Rowen. Similar to the route above, but tackling the hill from the oposite side. If you tack the two routes together, you could easily work out a circular route from Bwlch y Ddaeufaen car park that you could complete in a couple of hours. (12km, 600m ascent).
foel fras Foel Fras and Cwm Anafon from Aber. A wild and varied route up this outlying Carnedd. The ascent is largely pathless as is the descent to Llyn Anafon, so skillfull navigation will be required (especially in mist). An easy track takes you back to Aber. (15.5km, 920m ascent)
llyn cowlyd Pen Llithrig y Wrach and Pen yr Helgi Du from Capel Curig. Remote and quiet route on these Carneddau outliers. If you want a big day, then it's simple to tack the main Carneddau onto this route, in fact, it would seem a waste not to! (12km, 850m)
Llyn Crafnant

Around Llyn Crafnant. 5.5 km Easy

Slightly longer walk around Llyn Crafnant, Trefriw. The paths are excellent and wide, except for one awkward and steep part.

Llyn Parc

Llyn Parc. 6km Easy

This trip in the forest passes a couple of lakes, and mine ruins. Easy walk, but the navigation in the plantation can be a headache.

Aber Falls

Aber Circuit. 7.5 km Moderate

A straightforward ramble around Aber Falls and returning to Aber via a path, high above the valleyside. Easy gradient, steep descent at walk's end requires care.

north carneddau

Aber Falls from Bont Newydd. 4 km Very Easy

An easy walk that leaves the carpark along a good, wide path that's suitable for pushchairs.
